Chapter 1

What is LARP?

LARP, also known as live action role-playing, is a role playing game in which the participants in real life portray physically their characters using costumes, props and improvisation. The player can create their own character, or may be given a pre-made one and act as them. Set within a scenario, characters interact and could even antagonize with each other in order to achieve their own goals. They shape the outcome of their stories based on their decisions and actions.

Chapter 2

Who are we?

LARPifiers is a company based in Athens, Greece. We design and host LARP games for educational, psychotherapeutic and/or entertainment purposes.

What We Do Best

With studies in psychology, education, technology and many seminars on how to incorporate them in LARP games, the team never passes a chance to train harder and gain more knowledge for future use. Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion and knowledge; and the LARPifiers acquire all of the above.

Designers.

LARPers.

Educators.

We design games based on our group target and the outcome we want to achieve. Whether it is an educational or just for fun game, you will always learn new things and skills.

We are also players. This helps a lot in understanding how to deliver the best results. Even though the designers’ visions and work is really important to us, we wouldn’t be able to achieve much if we didn’t take in consideration the player’s aspects.

Coming from different backgrounds and studies, all of us have studied subjects that improve in different ways a person’s life. We have attended many seminars and workshops and we incorporate them in our games in order to transmit our knowledge.

Chapter 3

What is our goal?

  • To make learning fun, through non formal education.
  • To create lifelong memories of game experience.
  • To shape perspectives and create dreams.
  • To form unique experiences that inspire people to deviate from norm and turn to art.
  • To make LARP more widespread and common as a way of learning and socializing.

The Story so Far :

My friend, you’re asking me if I know The LARPifiers?

Let me tell you a little story…

The truth is, roleplaying games in general, like everything, came to Greece two decades later than the rest of the world. We had our first table top games somewhere in the 90s- and while the Live Action Variety also came around the end of the millennium, until 2015, despite the hard work and dedication of several people, most remained fairly underground (figuratively… and often literally, hosted in game store basements).

To paraphrase the best sci-fi series of all times, “It was the year everything changed. The year is 2015”. The first ever fantasy LARP in Greece is created, and after five rather tumultuous years, LARP has blossomed into a thriving scene with several hundred participants in total. Along the way, however, we realized the focus of the LARP community has been tied up in long-running campaigns, and the full extent of LARPing as a method for education, social inclusion, and even personal development has been neglected, save for a few experimental efforts here and there.

In 2019, with several years of organizing LARPs in our portfolio as individuals, we decided to band together and form the LARPifiers in order to explore the potential of LARPs in education and recreation, combining it with our professional knowledge in the fields of psychotherapy, education and game design.  As professionals with a new toolset, we focus on non-formal education, awareness of issues,  social inclusion, personal development, and training on gamification, in addition to good old-fashioned fun. And we’ll do all this just by playing games.

It is the year 2020. We are now an official non-profit enterprise, with participation in several european-funded projects, presence in international LARP and non-LARP conferences, and a team of professionals in complementary fields eager to create games that will change the world.

Oh, and did we mention we co-organised the Portal IX, 2021 in Athens, Greece?
